KARACHI: Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) has issued a list of 1,289 customs clearing agents, who have failed to comply with monthly return filing.
The SRB has jurisdiction for collection of sales tax on services rendered by the customs agents.
According to the list the customs agents have been found non-compliant for several months.
The SRB has powers to take harsh action against non-filers, including suspension of sales tax registration and in later stage cancel it.
In case of cancellation or suspension of sales tax registration the customs agents may not conduct their routine operation as their NTN would be blocked even by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and their clearance would be denied forthwith on recommendation of provincial revenue authorities.
Recently an issue was emerged as customs agents were asked to file their monthly sales tax returns with both SRB and FBR.
However, after several rounds of discussions the FBR allowed deregistration of those customs agents, who are providing services only at province level.
