Above Normal Temperatures Expected in Southern Punjab

Islamabad, April 3, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted an unusual rise in temperatures across Southern Punjab, with hot and dry conditions expected to persist on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Meteorologists warn that the region will experience significantly warmer than average temperatures, affecting daily life and agricultural activities.

According to the PMD, the weather on Friday will remain dry and hot across most districts of the Punjab province, with Southern Punjab being the most affected. The department forecasts that day temperatures in the southern districts could be 2 to 4°C above normal levels, intensifying the ongoing heatwave-like conditions.

The PMD’s latest analysis indicates that a shallow westerly trough is present over the upper regions of the country and is gradually moving eastward. However, this system is not expected to bring any significant relief to Southern Punjab, where dry weather will continue to dominate.

On Thursday, April 3, 2025, similar weather conditions prevailed, with dry weather reported across most districts of Punjab. In contrast, northern regions, including Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, and Jhelum, experienced partly cloudy conditions with occasional light rain or drizzle, providing some respite from the rising temperatures.

The increasing temperatures in Southern Punjab have raised concerns among farmers and residents, particularly regarding water availability and heat-related health issues. Experts urge people in Southern Punjab to take precautions, such as staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged sun exposure, as extreme heat can lead to dehydration and heat-related illnesses.

While Southern Punjab remains under the grip of high temperatures, other parts of Punjab will also witness relatively warmer weather, albeit with slightly less intensity. The PMD advises local authorities and residents to stay informed about the weather conditions and prepare accordingly.

As the heatwave intensifies, climate experts suggest that Southern Punjab may continue to experience above-normal temperatures in the coming days, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to mitigate the effects of extreme weather.
