ACCA Celebrates 120 Years of Excellence and Growth

Karachi, November 30, 2024 – The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is marking a historic milestone, celebrating 120 years since its establishment on November 30, 1904.

Founded in London by a visionary group of eight accountants, ACCA has grown into a global powerhouse in the accounting and finance profession, boasting over 252,500 members and 526,000 future members across 180 countries.

Reflecting on this remarkable journey, Assad Hameed Khan, Head of ACCA Pakistan, stated:

“By staying true to our founding value of inclusion, ACCA has become a truly global organisation, working for the public good. When ACCA was founded in 1904, nobody could have predicted how much we’d achieve. Our story is one of innovation and growth, but above all, it’s about launching careers, transforming lives, and making dreams come true.”

Khan also highlighted the vast influence of ACCA members worldwide, who are not only achieving professional success but also driving positive and sustainable impacts across businesses, organisations, and communities. This collective effort significantly benefits the global economy and underscores the organisation’s enduring legacy.

This year has been particularly notable for ACCA, as it achieved several historic milestones. The recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) saw Ayla Majid elected as president, with Melanie Proffitt as deputy president and Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan as vice president. This marks the first time in ACCA’s history that all three leadership roles are held by women, a testament to the organisation’s commitment to gender inclusion.

Helen Brand OBE, ACCA’s Chief Executive, described 2024 as a transformative year, stating:

“In May, we surpassed a quarter of a million members. In September, we launched our new Professional Diploma in Sustainability. And earlier this month, our efforts were recognised internationally with a nomination from the UN for our work in advancing sustainability reporting and skills capacity building.”

ACCA’s legacy also includes being the first accountancy body to admit women as members in 1909, cementing its position as a trailblazer for diversity and inclusion.

As ACCA reflects on 120 years of achievements, it continues to inspire future generations of accountants, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and global collaboration. To explore more, visit ACCA’s interactive timeline showcasing its journey and accomplishments.
