Afghanistan Outplay Pakistan in Second Semi-Final of Asian Games Cricket

Islamabad, October 6, 2023 – In a thrilling encounter at the Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field in Hangzhou, China, Afghanistan emerged victorious over Pakistan by four wickets in the 19th Asian Games Men’s Cricket second semi-final.

Winning the toss, Pakistan opted to bat first but struggled to find their rhythm against a formidable Afghan bowling attack. They were eventually bowled out for a total of 115 runs in 18 overs. Omair Yousuf was the highest scorer for Pakistan, contributing 24 runs from 19 balls, including two fours and one six. Aamir Jamal added 14 runs, Arafat Minhas contributed 13 runs, and Rohail Nazir chipped in with 10 runs.

The Afghan paceman, Fareed Ahmed, was the star with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets while conceding 15 runs in his three overs. Spinners Qais Ahmed and Zahir Khan also played their part, taking two wickets each.

Chasing the target of 116 runs, Afghanistan displayed resilience and determination. Noor Ali Zadran led the charge with a solid 39 runs from 33 balls, featuring four boundaries and two sixes, while Gulbadin Naib remained unbeaten with 26 runs from 19 balls, including one four and three sixes. Their partnership helped Afghanistan secure a place in the final of the 19th Asian Games.

Pakistan’s spin bowlers found success during Afghanistan’s innings as well. Qasim Akram and Sufiyan Muqeem each took a wicket, while Usman Qadir and Arafat Minhas returned with two wickets apiece.

With this victory, Afghanistan booked their spot in the final of the 19th Asian Games Cricket tournament. Meanwhile, Pakistan will now face Bangladesh in the bronze medal match at the same venue on Saturday.
