Fans of the 2005 film Constantine, starring Hollywood’s Keanu Reeves, have been eagerly awaiting news of a sequel.
Writer Akiva Goldsman recently shared an exciting update on the development of Constantine 2, confirming that work on the script is progressing well.
The original Constantine, based on DC’s Hellblazer comic series, saw Keanu Reeves take on the role of John Constantine, a demon-fighting anti-hero. Despite receiving mixed reviews upon its release, the movie gained a cult following over the years. Fans praised Keanu Reeves’ portrayal of the complex character, calling for a sequel.
Keanu Reeves himself expressed interest in reprising his role as Constantine. During a 2021 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the John Wick actor revealed that he would love to play the character again.
This sparked renewed discussions within Warner Bros., leading to an official announcement in 2022 that a sequel was in the works.
Earlier this year, Reeves returned to The Late Show and confirmed that conversations around the sequel had begun shortly after his 2021 interview. His enthusiasm further fueled excitement among fans.
In a recent interview with a U.S. media outlet, Goldsman provided more details, stating that he is actively working on the script.
“It’s going fine. I’m writing a script about Constantine 2… I hope to have a draft for my partners soon,” he shared. He also touched on past attempts to revive the Constantine franchise, including an unsuccessful bid for a TV series.
While there is no official timeline for when the script will be completed or when DC Chief James Gunn will give the green light for production, one thing is certain: Keanu Reeves will return as the iconic John Constantine.
Fans can look forward to seeing their favorite demon-slayer back on the big screen in the highly anticipated sequel.
