Google rolls out Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 for eligible Pixel devices, fixing audio glitches, NFC issues, fingerprint authentication, and Pixel Tablet dock connectivity.
Google has officially released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8, bringing another round of bug fixes and stability improvements as the company prepares for its upcoming September Feature Drop.
The latest beta arrives two weeks after Android 17 QPR1 Beta 7 and continues to support the entire Pixel 6 lineup, unlike the recently released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1, which dropped support for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
Major audio bug finally resolved
One of the biggest improvements in Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 addresses a long-standing audio framework issue that caused unexpected loud audio distortion and static during media playback and notification interactions.
Google’s release notes list dozens of related bug reports, indicating the issue affected a significant number of users and has now been comprehensively addressed.
Pixel Tablet connectivity improved
Google has also fixed a problem affecting the Pixel Tablet Speaker Dock, which frequently went offline or failed to reconnect after the tablet was attached.
The fix is expected to improve the overall reliability of the Pixel Tablet’s docking experience.
NFC functionality restored
Another key fix resolves an NFC service regression that prevented certain NFC tags from being read properly or from opening associated URLs.
The update restores normal NFC functionality for affected Pixel devices.
Fingerprint unlock issue fixed
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 also addresses a bug that prevented fingerprint authentication from launching when users attempted to unlock their devices.
The fix should improve the reliability of biometric unlocking across supported Pixel smartphones.
Focus shifts to stability
With Android 17 QPR1 nearing its stable release, Google is primarily concentrating on polishing the software rather than introducing new features.
The latest beta serves as another refinement build ahead of the September Feature Drop, focusing on bug fixes, performance improvements, and overall system stability.
How to install Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8
Eligible Pixel users interested in testing the latest beta can enroll their devices through Google’s Android Beta Program. Once registered, the update will be delivered over the air.
