Anne Hathaway reveals her doctor advised against appearing on Hot Ones during her pregnancy while promoting the film Verity.

Anne Hathaway’s pregnancy has prevented her from taking part in one particular promotional activity for her new film Verity — an appearance on the popular spicy-wing challenge show Hot Ones.

Speaking on the Talk of the Townsends podcast while discussing the Colleen Hoover adaptation, Hathaway revealed that she had initially planned to participate in the challenge as part of the film’s promotional campaign.

However, those plans changed after she became pregnant and her doctor advised her against taking part because of concerns that the challenge could potentially trigger early labour.

“I thought that I was gonna be able to do the Hot Ones challenge to do press for this film because it just made sense,” Hathaway said.

“But then I got pregnant, and my doctor said I couldn’t do it because I might go into early labour. So I still haven’t done the gauntlet yet. I’m not sure when that’s going to happen. Maybe next year.”

Verity has its own Hot Ones connection

The missed appearance is particularly notable because Hot Ones already features in the fictional world of Verity.

Hathaway portrays Verity Crawford, a paralysed bestselling author whose unfinished manuscript becomes central to the film’s story.

As part of the character’s fictional rise to cultural prominence, Verity is shown appearing in interviews with podcast host Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy and Sean Evans, the host of Hot Ones.

Hathaway explained that the idea came from a production meeting, when the filmmakers were considering how best to establish Verity as an influential cultural figure.

She recalled asking whether those appearances would be enough to establish Verity as an “iconic cultural figure”.

The actress also suggested that appearing on the real-life Hot Ones as part of the film’s promotional campaign could have completed what she described as a “triple crown trifecta”, alongside an interview with Gayle King.

Hathaway expecting third child

Hathaway announced in June that she and her husband, Adam Shulman, are expecting their third child.

The couple already have two sons, Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.

Her pregnancy comes during a particularly busy year for the actress, with Verity forming part of an extensive 2026 release slate that also includes Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey and The End of Oak Street.
