Apple confirms October 13 event for new smart home products

The “Welcome home” event is expected to feature a new HomePad smart display, HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K, with all three devices reportedly supporting the next-generation Siri AI.

Apple has confirmed a special event for October 13, using the tagline “Welcome home”, fuelling expectations that the company will unveil a new range of smart home products.

The announcement follows a rumour in late September that Apple was planning an event to introduce several home-focused devices, including the long-awaited HomePad or Home Hub, a second-generation HomePod mini and an updated Apple TV 4K.

Although Apple has confirmed the event, it has not officially disclosed which products will be announced.

HomePad Expected to Feature a Smart Display

One of the anticipated announcements is the rumoured HomePad, also referred to as the Home Hub. The device is expected to serve as a central control point for Apple’s smart home ecosystem.

According to earlier reports, the HomePad will feature a six-inch square display and may arrive in two versions. One model is reportedly designed for a desk or countertop, while the other is expected to be mounted on a wall.

The device is also rumoured to feature a built-in speaker in its base, with the display supported by a metal arm.

The HomePad is expected to support Apple’s next-generation Siri artificial intelligence features, potentially allowing users to interact with smart home devices and access information through voice commands and its display.

HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K Also Expected

Apple is also expected to introduce the HomePod mini 2, the successor to its compact smart speaker launched in 2020.

The updated speaker has been anticipated for some time, although Apple has yet to confirm its specifications, design or release details.

A new Apple TV 4K streaming box is another possible announcement. The current generation arrived in 2022, making an update a potential focus of the October event.

Both devices are expected to support the new Siri AI features, according to reports. However, their final specifications and capabilities remain unconfirmed.

Apple Expands Its Smart Home Strategy

The “Welcome home” tagline suggests that Apple’s upcoming announcements will focus on the home rather than its traditional iPhone or Mac product lines.

If the reported devices are unveiled, the event could mark a broader push into connected home hardware, combining displays, speakers, streaming devices and AI-powered voice assistance.

More details about the products, pricing and availability are expected when Apple holds its October 13 event.
