Apple has officially announced the iPhone 16e, a budget-friendly addition to its lineup, available exclusively in black and white.
Pre-orders for the device begin on February 21, with an official release set for February 28. The iPhone 16e comes in three storage variants: 128GB for $599 / €699 / £599, 256GB for $699 / €829 / £699, and 512GB for $899 / €1,079 / £899.
Performance and Camera Capabilities
The iPhone 16e is powered by Apple’s latest A18 chip, promising enhanced performance and efficiency. It features a 48MP “2-in-1 camera system,” which, despite being a single-lens setup, supports lossless 2x zoom. Apple claims this setup delivers high-quality images with improved low-light performance.
Display and Durability
The device boasts a 6.1-inch “Super Retina XDR” OLED screen, protected by Ceramic Shield technology, which Apple describes as “the toughest back glass in a smartphone.” The company also claims the iPhone 16e offers “the best battery life ever on a 6.1-inch iPhone,” reportedly lasting six hours longer than the iPhone 11 and up to 12 hours longer than previous iPhone SE models.
Software and Features
Running on iOS 18, the iPhone 16e includes the full suite of Apple Intelligence features seen in other iPhone 16 models. It also retains Face ID for security and introduces USB-C connectivity, aligning with Apple’s latest design choices. The phone features the customizable Action Button but lacks the Camera Control option found in higher-end models.
Connectivity and New Modem Technology
The iPhone 16e is the first to incorporate Apple’s in-house C1 modem, designed to optimize connectivity and power efficiency. It supports satellite-based features such as Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via satellite, ensuring reliable communication in remote areas.
