Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could become significantly thicker than its predecessor, according to a fresh leak that has revived speculation about the device’s design ahead of its expected September launch.
Earlier reports based on leaked dummy units suggested the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would be thicker than the current generation. However, conflicting claims later emerged, with one tipster saying the devices would retain the same 8.75mm thickness as the iPhone 17 Pro series.
A new report has now reignited the debate, with the same source reiterating that the iPhone 18 Pro could be approximately 2mm thicker than its predecessor.
Bigger battery and upgraded camera cited
If accurate, the increase would push the iPhone 18 Pro beyond 10mm in thickness, making it the thickest flagship iPhone in recent years.
The report suggests the additional thickness could accommodate two major hardware upgrades expected for the new lineup:
A larger battery with increased capacity
A new variable aperture main camera system
The variable aperture camera has been widely rumoured for the iPhone 18 Pro series and is expected to improve photography by allowing the camera to adjust the amount of light entering the lens.
Conflicting reports remain
Despite the latest claim, previous reports have painted a different picture.
In June, a well-known tipster claimed the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would remain 8.75mm thick, matching the dimensions of the iPhone 17 Pro models. Another source later disputed that information, saying the Pro model would be considerably thicker.
The conflicting leaks mean Apple’s final design remains uncertain.
Apple yet to confirm details
Apple has not confirmed any specifications for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
The company is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September alongside other new iPhone models. Until then, reports about the devices’ dimensions, battery capacity and camera upgrades remain based on leaks and industry speculation.
