New report outlines display specifications for Apple’s early 2027 iPhone lineup, including the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2.
Apple is expected to maintain its current display strategy for the next generation of entry-level and mid-range iPhones, according to a new leak detailing the company’s planned smartphone lineup for early 2027.
The report, shared by Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station on social media platform Weibo, claims Apple will introduce the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 in spring 2027, several months after the expected launch of the premium iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Ultra models.
According to the leak, the standard iPhone 18 will feature a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution described as “1.5K.” The device is expected to retain the same screen size as its predecessor.
The iPhone 18e, positioned as Apple’s more affordable offering, is said to come with a 6.12-inch LTPS OLED display featuring a 60Hz refresh rate. While the screen is marginally larger than that of the current-generation iPhone 17e, the report suggests Apple will continue reserving higher refresh rates for more premium models.
Meanwhile, the iPhone Air 2 is tipped to feature a 6.55-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen would be slightly larger than that of the first-generation iPhone Air while maintaining its premium display technology.
If the report proves accurate, Apple’s refresh rate strategy will remain largely unchanged across the lineup. The iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 would continue to offer smoother 120Hz displays, while the iPhone 18e would remain limited to a standard 60Hz panel.
The leak may disappoint users hoping Apple would extend its ProMotion technology to lower-priced models. A higher refresh rate has long been one of the most requested upgrades among users of Apple’s entry-level devices.
Apple has not commented on the report, and the specifications remain unconfirmed. The company is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro series and the rumored iPhone Ultra later this year before shifting focus to the broader iPhone 18 lineup in 2027.
As with all early smartphone leaks, details could change before the devices reach the market.
