Apple has officially begun assembling its entire iPhone 16 series in India, marking a significant shift in its manufacturing strategy.
For the first time, the tech giant is producing its top-tier Pro models outside of China. This move reflects Apple’s ongoing efforts to reduce its reliance on China for production, diversifying its supply chain amid global economic uncertainties.
The made-in-India iPhone 16 series is expected to hit Indian markets later this month and will also be exported to selected international destinations.
This expansion of production in India is part of Apple’s broader strategy to bolster its manufacturing presence in the country, where it has already started assembling other iPhone models.
In addition to the manufacturing push, Apple has announced plans to open four new retail stores in India. These will be located in key cities: Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi, and Mumbai.
The new stores are expected to further cement Apple’s presence in the Indian market, providing customers with greater access to its products and services. These outlets will complement the two existing Apple stores in Delhi and Mumbai, which were launched in April 2023.
Apple’s decision to increase production and retail operations in India underscores the company’s commitment to the growing Indian market, which is one of the largest smartphone markets in the world.
By manufacturing high-end devices like the iPhone 16 Pro models in India, Apple is positioning itself to meet the demands of both local consumers and international markets, while mitigating risks associated with over-dependence on any single country for production.
This development not only strengthens Apple’s footprint in India but also signals a larger trend of global tech companies seeking to diversify their supply chains. As Apple continues to expand its manufacturing and retail presence in India, it is likely to play a bigger role in the country’s economic and technological landscape.
