New Siri AI brings screen awareness, conversational upgrades and personal context features, marking Apple’s biggest assistant overhaul in years.

Apple has officially unveiled its next-generation virtual assistant, Siri AI, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026), marking one of the company’s most significant artificial intelligence upgrades in recent years.

The revamped assistant was announced at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, as part of a broader push to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. The upgrade introduces improved voice recognition, enhanced contextual awareness and a new standalone application designed to extend Siri’s functionality across devices.

Apple said the new Siri AI is capable of analysing on-screen content, allowing users to interact with what they are viewing more naturally. The assistant also features what the company describes as “broad world knowledge,” enabling it to retrieve information from the web when needed.

A key improvement is deeper personal context awareness. Users will be able to refer back to previous conversations with Siri AI, while the assistant can identify and retrieve relevant details such as contact information shared in messages, even if not manually saved.

“This means integrating AI deep into the products you use every day, grounding it in your personal context and the apps you rely on, and designing it with privacy at every step,” said Apple software chief Craig Federighi. “This is our vision for Apple Intelligence.”

The company also confirmed that Siri AI will feature a more expressive and conversational voice experience, aiming to make interactions feel more natural and human-like. The assistant will be available across iPhones, iPads and Macs, with tailored versions under development for Apple Watch devices.

Apple said the overhaul reflects years of development efforts led by chief executive Tim Cook, as the company seeks to close the gap with competitors such as Microsoft and Google in the AI assistant race.

A new standalone Siri AI app will also be introduced, allowing users to save and revisit AI-generated searches and interactions. The app will be synced across Apple devices using the company’s private cloud computing infrastructure.

However, Apple confirmed that the new Siri AI will not be available in the European Union at launch due to regulatory considerations. The assistant will also be unavailable in China as the company continues to navigate local compliance requirements.

Initial rollout will begin in English, with additional languages expected to follow in the coming months. Apple has not yet provided a detailed global rollout timeline.

The launch of Siri AI at WWDC 2026 highlights Apple’s renewed focus on artificial intelligence, as it attempts to redefine its digital assistant and strengthen its ecosystem through deeper integration of AI-driven features.
