Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone may not arrive as soon as many industry observers expected, with fresh reports from the company’s supply chain suggesting the device could be pushed back to early 2027.
The foldable handset, widely referred to by analysts as the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra, had been expected to debut alongside Apple’s flagship iPhone 18 Pro lineup later this year. However, comments from a key Apple supplier have fueled speculation that the launch timetable may have changed.
Supply Chain Hints at Delayed Launch
Largan Precision Chief Executive Lin En-ping indicated that some major customer products originally expected this year have been rescheduled.
According to translated remarks, Lin said the fourth quarter would remain busy due to new product launches, while some products are now expected to arrive in early 2027 rather than late 2026.
Although Lin did not specifically mention Apple or a foldable iPhone, analysts believe the comments could refer to Apple’s first foldable smartphone.
Apple Could Still Preview Foldable Device
Industry expectations had pointed to the foldable iPhone being unveiled as a surprise addition during Apple’s September launch event for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Even if the device is delayed, Apple could still choose to preview or tease the product before its commercial release.
The company has previously announced products months before they became available. In 2017, Apple introduced the iPhone X alongside the iPhone 8 lineup before releasing it later in the year.
Apple Reportedly Splitting iPhone Launch Strategy
Reports also suggest Apple plans to divide its future iPhone launches into separate release windows.
Under the reported strategy, premium models such as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would debut in September 2026, while standard models, including the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and the next-generation iPhone Air, could be introduced in spring 2027.
Such a schedule could create room for a foldable iPhone launch during the first half of next year.
Analysts Expect Strong Demand
Despite the reported delay, market analysts remain optimistic about Apple’s prospects in the foldable smartphone segment.
Industry forecasts suggest the company’s first foldable iPhone could ship approximately 11 million units during its first year on the market, potentially making Apple one of the leading players in the premium foldable category.
Apple has not publicly confirmed plans for a foldable iPhone, and all details regarding the device’s name, specifications and launch schedule remain based on industry reports and supply chain speculation.
For now, consumers may have to wait a little longer before Apple’s long-anticipated foldable smartphone becomes a reality.
