England fast bowler Jofra Archer says his body is finally in a good place after overcoming career-threatening elbow and back injuries.

England fast bowler Jofra Archer believes he is finally enjoying a positive phase in his career after overcoming a series of serious injuries that kept him away from Test cricket for more than four years.

The Barbados-born paceman moved to the United Kingdom in 2015 and quickly established himself as one of England’s leading fast bowlers. His rise reached a major milestone in 2019 when he played a key role in England’s dramatic World Cup final victory at Lord’s and impressed during the Ashes series.

However, Archer’s career soon suffered a major setback. An elbow problem emerged later in 2019, with England facing criticism over his workload during the tour of New Zealand. Further elbow and back problems subsequently kept him out of Test cricket from February 2021 until his return in July 2025.

Despite the difficult period, Archer said his extended absence from the sport also allowed him to reconnect with life away from cricket. He was able to spend longer periods with his family in Barbados, something that had been difficult since moving to England.

The 31-year-old said he now feels physically and mentally refreshed and is enjoying being back with the England team. He indicated that his primary focus is simply to remain fit and play as much cricket as possible.

Archer has already made an impact in England’s ongoing Test series against Pakistan. He featured in convincing victories at Headingley and Lord’s and is now looking to help England complete a 3-0 series sweep at Edgbaston.

England’s pace department has also attracted considerable attention. Archer has been operating alongside Ollie Robinson, Josh Tongue and Gus Atkinson, creating a formidable attack.

The group has even prompted comparisons with England’s renowned 2005 Ashes pace unit featuring Matthew Hoggard, Steve Harmison, Simon Jones and Andrew Flintoff.

With Archer back to full fitness and England chasing another victory, the fast bowler will be central to the team’s hopes of completing a dominant series against Pakistan.
