Mikel Arteta prioritises squad fitness as Arsenal begin their Premier League title defence against promoted Coventry City.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that new signing Bruno Guimaraes remains a doubt for Friday’s Premier League opener against newly promoted Coventry City, raising early concerns over the midfielder’s fitness.

The Brazil international joined Arsenal from Newcastle United this month in a reported £75 million transfer. However, his immediate involvement in the opening league fixture is uncertain after he appeared to suffer a leg problem during Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City on Sunday.

Guimaraes was seen applying ice to his leg after being substituted, although Arteta indicated that the issue was progressing positively. The Arsenal boss is expected to assess the midfielder again before deciding whether he can feature against Coventry.

Arsenal Focus on Player Availability

Arteta has highlighted squad availability as a key factor in Arsenal’s ambitions this season. The London club suffered several significant injuries during the previous campaign, with important players including Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus spending extended periods on the sidelines.

The manager believes maintaining a healthy squad could give Arsenal a stronger platform to compete consistently throughout the campaign. With the Premier League title defence beginning, Arsenal will be keen to avoid another season disrupted by injuries.

Gunners Target Another Premier League Title

Arsenal finished third in the previous Premier League campaign and are looking to challenge strongly for domestic honours once again. The club have won 14 English top-flight championships but have never successfully defended a Premier League title.

Arteta remains optimistic about Arsenal’s prospects and believes the squad has greater motivation heading into the new season. The manager expects the players to maintain that ambition through their daily work as they attempt to close the gap at the top.

Arsenal Continue Defensive Recruitment

Arsenal are also reportedly working to strengthen their defensive department. The club have been linked with Aston Villa and England centre-back Ezri Konsa, with reports suggesting a potential £51 million agreement.

Arteta declined to provide confirmation, indicating that Arsenal would make an announcement once any deal was ready.

Meanwhile, the manager has dismissed speculation surrounding Myles Lewis-Skelly. Arteta expects the 19-year-old versatile defender to remain with Arsenal despite reports suggesting possible interest from elsewhere.
