Australia have unveiled a 13-player squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series at home against Pakistan. This squad sees the return of fast bowlers Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Spencer Johnson, each making a comeback from injury.
They join white-ball stalwarts Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, and Josh Inglis as the team prepares for the series opener on November 14 in Brisbane.
Australia’s Test stars, however, will not participate in this series, as they focus on preparing for the five-match Test series against India starting on November 22. Consequently, regular white-ball captain Mitch Marsh and Test skipper Pat Cummins will remain in Perth to prepare for the India Test series, leaving selectors with the task of appointing a new captain to lead the T20 side against Pakistan. This temporary change opens the door for new leadership, providing the selectors a chance to assess fresh potential for the future.
George Bailey, Chair of Selectors, expressed his optimism about the squad’s potential, noting both the experience and emerging talent within the lineup. “This group of players has all represented Australia in T20 cricket, and we look forward to watching them build on their international experience throughout this series,” Bailey stated. “We’re excited by the blend of seasoned players and those at the start of their international careers. Having Xavier, Spencer, and Nathan back in the squad is particularly promising, offering them another chance to showcase their skills on the global stage.”
Bailey’s comments underscore the selection committee’s intent to nurture a balanced team that can evolve while several of Australia’s primary players remain focused on Test responsibilities. The inclusion of promising talents like Cooper Connolly and Jake Fraser-McGurk, alongside established players, reflects Australia’s aim to develop depth and versatility across formats.
The series against Pakistan offers Australia a unique opportunity to experiment with new combinations and leadership while maintaining their competitive edge. The first match will take place on November 14 in Brisbane, followed by the second T20I on November 16 in Sydney and the final game on November 18 in Hobart.
