Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster reaches the milestone more than three months before its December 2026 theatrical release
Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday has already generated major box office demand, with Disney revealing that the upcoming superhero film has surpassed $50 million in domestic pre-sales more than three months before its theatrical release.
Disney chief financial officer Hugh Johnston announced the figure during the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, offering an early indication of the anticipation surrounding the next Avengers instalment.
The $50 million milestone places Avengers: Doomsday close to several major advance-sales records. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey generated around $40 million in pre-sales, while Avengers: Endgame recorded approximately $60 million in comparable advance ticket sales.
The current benchmark is held by Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which reached $72 million through previews and advance ticket activity. Doomsday would therefore need another $22 million to match that figure.
The timing is particularly notable. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 18, 2026, meaning consumers are already spending heavily on tickets well ahead of its release.
Marvel Studios began selling tickets in July, with a major focus on Infinity Vision-certified screens. Disney describes Infinity Vision as a certification for premium large-format cinemas designed to identify auditoriums meeting specific standards for screen size, brightness and sound.
Johnston said around 70% of the $50 million in domestic pre-sales came from Infinity Vision tickets, representing roughly $35 million.
The initiative has become particularly important because Christopher Nolan’s Dune: Part Three is also scheduled to open on December 18 and has secured IMAX screens during the release period. Disney is instead promoting Infinity Vision across qualifying premium auditoriums operated by different cinema chains.
Infinity Vision is not a new projection technology like IMAX. Certified screens must have displays at least 45 feet wide, immersive sound systems such as Dolby Atmos or 7.1, and specified brightness levels.
Disney said it has received more than 7,500 applications from exhibitor screens worldwide seeking certification.
Directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will become the fifth main Avengers film. Robert Downey Jr will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Victor von Doom, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby.
The build-up will also include Avengers: Endgame Encore, returning to cinemas on September 25 with new material connected to Doomsday.
