Bangladesh Adjust Squad for Second Test Against Sri Lanka

In preparation for the highly anticipated second Test against Sri Lanka in Chattogram, Bangladesh cricket team has strategically modified their 15-member squad, aiming to turn the tide in their favor after a challenging first Test encounter.

These significant alterations not only reflect the team’s commitment to adaptability but also underline their determination to level the Test series.

The most notable change comes in the form of the return of Shakib Al Hasan, a talismanic figure in Bangladesh cricket. Shakib’s comeback to the squad marks a crucial moment, as he makes his international cricket return since sustaining a left index finger injury during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in November 2023.

Despite enduring setbacks on the fitness front, Bangladesh’s medical team has expressed confidence in managing Shakib’s health concerns, including a diagnosed retinal condition earlier this year.

His inclusion in the squad provides a much-needed boost to Bangladesh’s morale and adds depth to their lineup, instilling renewed hope for a strong showing in the upcoming match.

Additionally, the squad sees another alteration with the absence of Mushfik Hasan due to a left ankle injury. In his place, Hasan Mahmud has been named as a replacement.

While Mahmud is yet to make his Test debut, his wealth of experience garnered from 39 appearances in ODIs and T20Is for Bangladesh brings a valuable asset to the team.

His inclusion underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to fielding a balanced squad capable of confronting the challenges posed by the opposition.

The revised Bangladesh squad for the second Test is as follows:

Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain)

Zakir Hasan

Mahmudul Hasan Joy

Shadman Islam

Litton Das

Mominul Haque

Shakib Al Hasan

Shahadat Hossain

Mehidy Hassan Miraz

Nayeem Hasan

Taijul Islam

Shoriful Islam

Khaled Ahmed

Nahid Rana

Hasan Mahmud

With these alterations, Bangladesh aims to mount a stronger challenge following their lackluster performance in the first Test. Sri Lanka’s dominance in the opening match, where they secured victory by a margin of 328 runs, highlighted the areas where Bangladesh needs to improve.

Notably, Sri Lankan batsmen Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis showcased impressive form, while Bangladesh struggled to make significant contributions with the bat.

As the teams gear up for the second Test in Chattogram, there’s added significance with both sides vying for crucial WTC25 points. Currently tied at the 6th place in the standings, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka each hold a point percentage of 33.33.

The upcoming match promises to be a fiercely contested battle, with both teams eager to claim victory and enhance their standing in the World Test Championship rankings.
