Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal has surprised the cricketing world by withdrawing his retirement from international cricket.
This unexpected reversal came after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina personally intervened and convinced him to continue playing.
Tamim expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s influence and the overwhelming support he received from others. He also mentioned the need for a break for treatment before resuming his cricket career.

Tamim’s decision to retire on July 6, during the ongoing home ODI series against Afghanistan and just months ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, stunned fans and fellow players.
However, everything changed after he was invited to the Prime Minister’s residence for a lengthy discussion. Following their meeting, the Prime Minister persuaded him to return to cricket, prompting Tamim to reconsider his retirement.
He acknowledged the significance of the Prime Minister’s position, stating, “I can say no to anyone, but it is impossible to say no to the most important person in the country. Mashrafe (Mortaza) called me while the BCB President was here. They were big factors (in making me reverse my decision). The Prime Minister has also given me a break of a month and a half. I will complete my treatment and return to playing cricket.”
