Hosts dominate with strong all-round display as Sylhet Test heads into decisive Day 4

SYLHET – Bangladesh national cricket team set a daunting target of 437 runs for Pakistan national cricket team in the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium after reaching stumps on Day 3 on Monday.

At the close of play, Bangladesh had put themselves in a commanding position following a strong second innings performance, leaving Pakistan with a challenging fourth-innings chase in what could prove a series-defining contest.

Bangladesh build strong lead

Bangladesh produced a dominant batting effort in their second innings, posting 390 runs, which significantly extended their overall lead in the match.

The total came on a surface that has remained largely favourable for batting, despite earlier fluctuations across the first two innings.

Pakistan face uphill chase

Pakistan ended Day 3 without losing a wicket in their brief late-session passage of play, surviving a testing spell under fading light from Bangladesh pacers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam.

Pakistan will resume Day 4 needing 437 runs with all 10 wickets intact, but will require a significant batting effort to level or win the match.

Analysts noted that the pitch has shown no extreme deterioration, suggesting a potentially competitive but difficult run chase if Pakistan’s top order can build strong partnerships early on Day 4.

Series advantage with Bangladesh

Bangladesh appear well placed to secure a series sweep in the two-match Test series, having outperformed Pakistan in both bowling discipline and batting depth.

Pakistan’s bowling changes in the match have yet to yield the desired results, while their relatively inexperienced batting lineup faces a stern test in the fourth innings.

Play is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, May 19, with the opening session expected to be crucial in determining whether Pakistan can mount a successful chase or whether Bangladesh will complete a commanding victory.
