Bank Holiday Declared on March 23, 2024

Karachi, March 22, 2024 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a bank holiday on March 23, 2024, in observance of ‘Pakistan Day’, according to a circular issued by the central bank today.

In the circular addressed to the presidents and chief executives of all banks, development financial institutions, and microfinance banks, the SBP formally communicated the declaration of the bank holiday.

March 23rd holds significant historical importance for Pakistan as it marks the anniversary of the Lahore Resolution, also known as Pakistan Resolution, passed on March 23, 1940, which laid the foundation for the creation of an independent Muslim state in South Asia.

The circular further stated that the State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on March 23, 2024 (Saturday), as it has been declared a public holiday by the Government of Pakistan to commemorate Pakistan Day.
