Karachi, September 15, 2024 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially announced a bank holiday on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in observance of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa-Sallam).
This holiday marks the celebration of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, a day of great religious significance for Muslims across the country.
Official Statement by the State Bank of Pakistan
The SBP, in its official notification, confirmed that all banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks will remain closed on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The notification reads: “The State Bank of Pakistan, along with all associated financial institutions, will remain closed on Tuesday, 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal (September 17, 2024) in celebration of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (S.A.W.).”
This annual bank holiday provides employees in the banking sector an opportunity to observe this important religious event. Additionally, it allows the general public to participate in the various religious gatherings, processions, and activities that are held across the country.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi Celebrations Across Pakistan
Eid Milad-un-Nabi (S.A.W.) is celebrated with great reverence in Pakistan, with various religious events, including processions, Naat recitations, and Seerat-un-Nabi conferences, taking place across the country. Mosques, streets, and homes are decorated with lights and banners in commemoration of the Holy Prophet’s (S.A.W.) birth.

Public Services and Banking Operations
While the banking sector will remain closed for the day, ATM services and online banking platforms will continue to operate as usual, ensuring that the public can access essential banking services during the holiday. However, any transactions requiring in-person attendance at banks, such as over-the-counter services, will resume on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

In addition to the bank holiday, the Government of Pakistan has declared a public holiday on September 17, 2024, allowing people from all walks of life to participate in the religious festivities of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (S.A.W.).
