Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia will miss the Sevilla match and Spain’s upcoming international fixtures after suffering a minor right-knee injury.

Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia will miss Saturday’s La Liga trip to Sevilla and will also be unavailable for Spain during the upcoming international break after the club confirmed he has suffered a minor knee injury.

Garcia sustained the injury during the first half of Barcelona’s emphatic 7-2 victory over Racing Santander on Wednesday. He was replaced by Wojciech Szczesny at half-time as a precaution.

Medical examinations later confirmed that Garcia had not suffered a serious injury. However, Barcelona said the goalkeeper was experiencing mild discomfort in his right knee.

“First-team player Joan Garcia is experiencing mild discomfort in his right knee. His recovery will determine when he returns,” the club said in a statement.

Garcia ruled out of Sevilla clash

The injury affects Garcia’s right knee, rather than his left knee, which required surgery last year.

His absence leaves Barcelona without one of its goalkeeping options for Saturday’s visit to Sevilla as the Catalan club continues its La Liga campaign.

Barcelona will monitor Garcia’s recovery in the coming days before determining when he can resume first-team training and competitive action.

Garcia to miss Spain duty

Garcia’s injury will also prevent him from joining Spain during the upcoming international break, presenting national team coach Luis de la Fuente with a goalkeeping selection decision.

Spain are scheduled to face England, Croatia and Czechia during the international fixtures. De la Fuente will have to decide which goalkeeper joins established options Unai Simón and David Raya in the squad.

For Barcelona, the immediate focus will be on Saturday’s league fixture against Sevilla, with Szczesny among the options available to cover Garcia’s absence.
