Ben Affleck is opening up about the emotional rollercoaster of reentering the dating world following his recent divorce.
While promoting his upcoming film The Accountant 2, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that, much like his on-screen character, he struggles with the complexities of modern romance.
In the film, Affleck reprises his role as Christian Wolff, a brilliant yet socially awkward accountant with a complicated past. Interestingly, the actor said he sees a lot of himself in the character—particularly when it comes to relationships.
“Here’s a guy who’s trying to figure out — he wants to have a relationship with a woman, he’s trying to figure out how to do that,” Affleck, 51, shared during a promotional event. “He doesn’t really know how to flirt exactly. He’s not comfortable… like so many of us.”
The Good Will Hunting star went on to describe the vulnerability that comes with dating again, especially after a high-profile breakup. “What does this signal mean? Is this person looking at me? Do they like me? Am I going to humiliate myself if I go over there?” Affleck said. “It’s not easy for anyone.”
His refreshingly honest reflections come just three months after finalizing his divorce from Jennifer Lopez. The former Hollywood power couple rekindled their iconic romance in 2021—nearly two decades after their first engagement—only to part ways again in 2024 after two years of marriage.
Since then, Affleck has reportedly taken a laid-back approach to dating. Though he was briefly linked to Kick Kennedy last summer, sources say the actor is simply “casually dating” and focusing on his personal growth.
