Blake Lively is singing the praises of her Another Simple Favor co-star Anna Kendrick—quite literally! The Gossip Girl star recently shared a glowing message about Kendrick’s impressive musical performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Kendrick took on a quirky and hilarious singing challenge.
In the fan-favorite segment “Song Scrambler,” Anna Kendrick was tasked with singing the lyrics of Hanson’s iconic pop hit MMMBop—but using the melody of Benson Boone’s emotional track Beautiful Things. It was a chaotic mashup, but Kendrick delivered it effortlessly, leaving both the audience and her fans in awe.
Watching from afar, Blake Lively couldn’t hold back her excitement. On April 30, she posted a video of Kendrick’s performance to her Instagram Story and showered her with compliments. “Math: @annakendrick = one of one,” Blake wrote, clearly stunned by her friend’s talent.
“She’s INSANELY talented,” Blake Lively continued, adding, “I meannnn, it’s bonkers.” To top it off, she joked, “I want this as my ringtone please and thank you.” It’s clear that Lively was more than a little impressed.
But Blake Lively wasn’t the only one blown away. Isaac Hanson, one of the original performers of MMMBop, also chimed in with praise. He commented, “You sounded fantastic… Well done! I love this!” on the clip of Kendrick’s performance. With endorsements like that, Kendrick’s moment was clearly a hit.
This wave of appreciation comes shortly after Blake and Anna Kendrick reunited in London on April 15 to promote the upcoming sequel to their 2018 hit, A Simple Favor. Their friendly energy and big smiles during interviews put to rest any rumors of behind-the-scenes tension.
Director Paul Feig even addressed one of the viral rumors suggesting Blake Lively was avoiding Anna Kendrick at the SXSW premiere. “Um… you’re wrong,” Feig responded bluntly to a fan’s speculation online.
Whether on screen or online, it’s obvious there’s plenty of admiration—and laughter—between these two stars. And if Blake Lively has her way, Kendrick’s vocals might just end up on her phone every time someone calls.
