BMW i Vision Dee unveiled with color-change technology

BMW Group unveiled the vision car with color-changing technology namely ‘BMW i Vision Dee’ at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 in Las Vegas.

BMW i Vision Dee is a vision vehicle that enables completely new kind of interaction and communication between humans and vehicles.

The car contains all senses. The BMW i Vision Dee adapts to the driver’s habits, suggests destinations to navigate to, or entertainment programs and provides information, news, calendar entries or social media posts. In this way, the vision vehicle becomes a companion for people beyond the streets and into the virtual world.

BMW i Vision Dee has nine different facial expressions. The vehicle is emotionally intelligent: It interacts with its environment and uses its numerous sensors to register the identity and position of the person and reacts when they approach. Automatically opening doors welcome the driver as they approach the cockpit.

The headlights and closed BMW kidney grille display a multimedia welcoming scenario of light, graphics and sounds – including nine different facial expressions. It has many emotions ranging from joy to approval to amazement.

BMW Group presented the BMW i Vision Dee with the world’s first full-color version of this technology. The BMW i Vision Dee is able to display up to 32 different colors.

BMW i Vision Dee projects information across the entire width of the windscreen in an evolution of the heap-up display and provides information about previous journeys to the people.

The BMW i Vision Dee combines digital and analogue into a complete whole. The vision vehicle brings virtual worlds into the car and opens up new levels of interaction. As soon as you settle in the driver’s seat, you enter a new world.

The BMW Mixed Reality Slider displays content in five different levels – ranging from analogue, to driving-related information, to the contents of the communications system, to augmented-reality projection, right up to entry into virtual worlds.

The exterior is defined by the classic three-box sedan design that forms the core of the BMW brand. Traditional design elements, like the BMW kidney grille, twin circular headlights and the Hofmeister kink, are reimagined, with phygital icons replacing analogue elements.

The interior of the car picks up on clean and clear design, tranquil colors, warm and textile surfaces create a pleasant feeling. The footwell between the driver’s and front passenger’s seats is continuous, and the rear seat extends into the doors. The steering wheel, pedals and gear selector are the only physical controls. The vision vehicle reinforces the emotional connection between cars and people.
