BENGALURU, February 3, 2025 – India has been dealt a major concern ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, as star pacer Jasprit Bumrah undergoes scans and medical assessment under the supervision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team.
The right-arm fast bowler arrived at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Monday for a thorough evaluation of his back injury, which he sustained during the final Test match in India’s recent five-match away series.
According to reports, Bumrah will stay at the NCA for at least two to three days as the BCCI medical team assesses the severity of his condition. Once the evaluations are complete, a detailed report will be submitted to the Indian team selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar.
The 33-year-old pacer, a crucial part of India’s squad for the Champions Trophy, is expected to play a key role in the tournament. However, concerns over his fitness persist. Last month, Ajit Agarkar, while announcing the squad, disclosed that Bumrah would be unavailable for the first two ODIs of India’s three-match home series against England.
“Bumrah has been advised a five-week offload period, and therefore, he won’t be available for the first two ODIs against England. We are closely monitoring his fitness and expect an update from the BCCI medical team in early February,” Agarkar stated in a press conference.
The final decision on Bumrah’s availability for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be made after his injury assessment. If he fails to recover in time, India is likely to replace him with all-rounder Harshit Rana, according to the Times of India.
