BYD Recalls Electric Vehicles Over Potential Fire Hazard

Chinese automaker BYD has launched a global recall to address a potential fire risk in specific models of its electric vehicles (EVs).

This large-scale recall impacts nearly 100,000 units of the popular Dolphin and Yuan Plus models, which have gained significant traction in both domestic and international markets.

This recall marks the largest in the company’s history, highlighting BYD’s dedication to ensuring the safety and quality of its vehicles.

The root cause of the recall lies in a potential manufacturing flaw in the electric power steering column assembly (CEPS) controller. Due to an interference problem, capacitors on the circuit board of the controller might develop micro-cracks.

These cracks could lead to short circuits and overheating, which in rare instances, may escalate into a fire hazard. Although the risk is minimal, BYD is taking proactive measures to prevent any possible incidents.

As part of the recall, BYD will install insulation pads on the CEPS controllers of all affected vehicles to eliminate the possibility of a fire. This fix will be provided to owners free of charge.

The company is ensuring that vehicle owners are fully informed, reaching out to them via registered mail, WeChat messages, and phone calls. Additionally, BYD has set up a dedicated customer service hotline for inquiries and assistance regarding the recall process, further emphasizing its customer-oriented approach.

The Dolphin and Yuan Plus models have been instrumental in BYD’s global expansion, representing a significant portion of the company’s sales. Both models are celebrated for their affordability, advanced technology, and eco-friendly credentials, helping BYD strengthen its position as a leading EV manufacturer worldwide.

With the rising competition in the electric vehicle industry, especially from other Chinese automakers and international brands, BYD’s recall demonstrates its focus on maintaining its reputation for safety, reliability, and innovation.

This proactive move to resolve a potential issue underscores BYD’s commitment to delivering high-quality electric vehicles that meet rigorous safety standards.

As EV adoption continues to grow, the company’s ability to respond swiftly and responsibly to challenges like this will be crucial in sustaining customer trust and market leadership in the competitive EV sector.
