BYD to Unveil Latest MPV on August 30

BYD is gearing up to introduce its latest MPV at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 30. This new vehicle has been the subject of much anticipation, especially after being spotted in spy shots, which have fueled speculation about its name.

Initially, there were rumors suggesting the name might be Tang Max or Zhou, but the official name will only be disclosed at 2:30 PM in Hall 9 during the event.

Lu Tian, the General Manager of BYD’s Dynasty sales division, took to Weibo to announce the unveiling, further stirring excitement by hinting at a new dynasty name for the MPV.

Considering the existing Tang series in BYD’s lineup, the name Zhou seems to be the more plausible choice. The spy shots released by Lu offer a sneak peek into the vehicle’s design, showcasing a robust silhouette with a commanding front grille that underscores its presence.

Inside the MPV, luxury and space take center stage. The vehicle is designed with a seven-seat configuration, spread across three rows, making it an ideal choice for families or those who prioritize space.

The interior is equipped with three screens: a digital instrument panel, a center infotainment screen, and a third screen presumably for passenger use.

The second-row seats are particularly noteworthy, featuring independent armrests, electric adjustments, and airplane-style tray tables, elevating the comfort level for passengers. Even those in the third row are not left out, as adjustable headrests ensure a comfortable ride for all.

Under the hood, BYD’s new MPV is expected to be powered by the brand’s DM 5.0 technology, most likely featuring a 1.5T engine. This engine, already popular in larger plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) like the Han DM-i, is known for its efficiency and power.

The BYD472ZQB engine offers a maximum power output of 115 kW, complemented by a 200 kW peak power electric motor. Previous reports have hinted at an all-electric range of 200 km, but these details will be officially confirmed at the launch.

With an estimated price range of 250,000 to 350,000 yuan, BYD’s new MPV is poised to make a substantial impact on the Chinese market.

The Chengdu Auto Show will reveal more specifics, including the official name, detailed specifications, and availability, marking a significant moment for BYD as it continues to expand its lineup with innovative and competitive offerings.
