BYD to unveil Yangwang Altior, luxury sedan ready to challenge Rolls-Royce

The upcoming flagship sedan will rival the Rolls-Royce Ghost with a 5.5-meter body, premium design, advanced technology and an expected price of around $300,000.

BYD has teased its upcoming Yangwang Altior luxury sedan, a flagship model designed to compete with prestigious vehicles such as the Rolls-Royce Ghost. The Chinese automaker has released a teaser image and video ahead of the car’s expected debut in Dubai around November 5, 2026.

The new sedan, previously known by its internal codename HU, will carry the Altior name in international markets. According to Yangwang sales division general manager Hu Xiaoqing, the name originates from Latin and means “higher.” In China, the vehicle will be marketed as Dingyao.

The Yangwang Altior is expected to enter the ultra-luxury segment with an estimated price of 2 million yuan, equivalent to approximately $300,000. Its anticipated launch in the United Arab Emirates also highlights BYD’s ambition to expand its presence in the Middle Eastern luxury car market.

Distinctive Exterior Inspired by Chinese Heritage

The Yangwang Altior adopts the design philosophy introduced with the brand’s U8 luxury SUV. Its front-end styling draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese ding vessel, an ancient vessel distinguished by its legs and handles.

The sedan features an elongated bonnet, a prominent dash-to-axle proportion and large chrome-finished wheels. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor suggests an emphasis on advanced driver-assistance technology. Another notable feature is its rear-hinged rear doors, a design commonly associated with prestigious luxury automobiles.

Dimensions Put It Against the Rolls-Royce Ghost

The flagship sedan measures approximately 5,500 mm in length and has a 3,350 mm wheelbase. Its overall length is around 100 mm greater than that of the standard Rolls-Royce Ghost, placing it firmly in the full-size luxury limousine category.

Beyond Rolls-Royce, the Yangwang Altior is expected to compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Huawei-JAC Maextro S800. Reports suggest that the vehicle could feature four electric motors and a hydraulic suspension system, although BYD has not officially confirmed these specifications.

BYD Targets the Ultra-Luxury Market

The Altior will join Yangwang’s premium lineup as the brand seeks to strengthen its international profile. From January to September 2026, Yangwang delivered 3,251 vehicles in China, representing a 38.9% year-on-year increase.

The brand’s most expensive model so far is the U9 Xtreme hypercar, reportedly priced at around 20 million yuan, with production limited to 30 units.

BYD has yet to disclose the Altior’s complete specifications, performance figures or official pricing. Its expected Dubai debut around November 5 will provide further insight into the company’s plans for the high-end automotive market.
