Committee clears amendments to procurement laws and GI Act schedule while deferring drugs research and railway land proposals for further consultation.
The Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Matters has approved a series of legal and administrative measures, including amendments to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Ordinance, 2002 and the introduction of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025.
The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar at the Ministry of Law and Justice on Friday. Senior officials from relevant ministries and government divisions participated in the session.
The committee reviewed several proposals concerning legislative and administrative matters. These included amendments to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Ordinance, 2002, the proposed Public Procurement Rules, 2025, and the inclusion of the Geographical Indication Act, 2020 in the relevant schedule.
Other matters considered by the committee included the discontinuation of the Condiment Allowance and a specific amendment to the Danish Schools Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The committee approved all five proposals placed before it. The decisions have subsequently been sent to the concerned ministries and divisions for completion of the required legal and administrative procedures.
The committee also examined proposals concerning the utilization of railway land and efforts to increase government revenue through its effective use. Officials briefed the meeting on a notable rise in income generated from railway land and provided details about land currently available as well as its expected future availability.
However, the proposed amendments to rules governing railway land were not approved at this stage. The committee directed the relevant authorities to hold additional consultations and provide further clarification before the proposal is reconsidered.
The proposed changes to the Drugs (Research) Rules, 1978 also remained pending. Members decided that the matter required additional deliberation and consultation with the relevant stakeholders.
The committee agreed that the deferred proposals would be brought before it again during a subsequent meeting. Relevant ministries and departments have been directed to complete consultations and provide the necessary details before the pending matters are resubmitted for consideration.
