Cameron Diaz Open to Role in The Mask Sequel with Jim Carrey

Cameron Diaz, who recently returned to acting after a decade-long break with Netflix’s Back in Action, has expressed her openness to revisiting one of her most iconic roles in a potential sequel to the 1994 comedy The Mask. Speaking with Access Hollywood, Diaz revealed that she would gladly reprise her role as nightclub singer Tina Carlyle—on one condition.

“If Jim [Carrey]’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one,” she quipped, referring to her legendary co-star, whose portrayal of Stanley Ipkiss in The Mask remains a fan favorite.

The original film followed Ipkiss, a mild-mannered bank clerk whose life takes a wild turn when he discovers a mysterious mask imbued with the spirit of Loki, a magical trickster. The film’s combination of Carrey’s comedic genius and groundbreaking special effects made it a box-office hit and cemented its place as a cult classic.

Interestingly, Carrey has also hinted at a willingness to revisit the beloved character. In an earlier interview with Comicbook.com, the actor acknowledged that while he’s open to the idea, it would require a compelling script. “Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea,” Carrey explained. “It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money… but if a great idea and the right team come along, things tend to change.”

Carrey, who recently reprised his role as Doctor Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, has hinted at “power-resting” rather than full retirement, leaving the door ajar for exciting projects like The Mask sequel.

In the same interview, Diaz also hinted at rekindling another iconic franchise—Charlie’s Angels. She playfully suggested a reunion with co-stars Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, and even joked about her Back in Action co-star Jamie Foxx stepping into the role of Bosley. “I’m gonna text [Liu] right now and pitch her Jamie as Bosley,” Diaz teased.

As fans eagerly await more updates, the prospect of Diaz and Carrey teaming up again for a The Mask sequel has sparked excitement, reminding audiences of their magical on-screen chemistry in the 1994 classic. For now, both actors remain open to the possibility, fueling hopes for a nostalgic revival.
