Cantonment starts demolishing illegal constructions from March 10

In adherence to directives issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Clifton Cantonment has announced plans to commence the demolition of unauthorized constructions, starting from March 10, 2020.

The decision comes as the cantonment authorities finalize their strategy to address illegal structures across six different localities falling under their jurisdiction.

In an official notice, the Clifton Cantonment informed the public that action would be taken against unauthorized constructions in specified areas, including P&T Colony, Delhi Colony, and Punjab Colony, which have deviated from approved building plans and land use regulations.

The notice stated, “It is intimated that the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan has been pleased to direct action regarding illegal construction raised against approved building plans and charge of land use in colonies namely P&T, Delhi, Punjab Colony, and also demolition which are within the territorial limits of District South Karachi.”

Scheduled to commence on March 10 and continue until March 31, 2020, the demolition drive aims to curb the proliferation of illegal structures and restore adherence to urban planning regulations within the cantonment’s jurisdiction.

In preparation for the enforcement of these directives, the Clifton Cantonment has requested the Inspector General of Police to deploy a substantial police contingent, including female constables, to ensure the smooth execution of the demolition operations. Additionally, the cantonment authorities have reached out to district authorities, urging them to provide the necessary manpower and equipment to support the demolition efforts on the specified dates and times.

The decision to initiate the demolition drive underscores the Clifton Cantonment’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks governing urban development. By addressing unauthorized constructions, the cantonment aims to promote orderly and sustainable urban growth while preserving the integrity of residential and commercial areas within its jurisdiction.

However, while the enforcement of these directives signifies a significant step towards addressing urban planning irregularities, it is essential for all stakeholders, including residents and developers, to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to regulatory guidelines to prevent the recurrence of unauthorized constructions in the future.

As the demolition drive gets underway, the Clifton Cantonment emphasizes the importance of community awareness and engagement in promoting responsible urban development practices and fostering a conducive environment for sustainable growth and development.
