No immediate heatwave threat for Karachi: PMD

Karachi to remain hot and humid

Karachi is expected to continue experiencing hot and humid weather during the coming days, although there is currently no immediate threat of a heatwave in the city, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The Met Office said sea breezes are helping maintain relatively stable weather conditions in the metropolis despite rising temperatures in other parts of Sindh.

Daytime temperatures in Karachi are likely to remain between 36°C and 37°C over the next several days.

    Heatwave likely in interior Sindh

While Karachi may avoid extreme heat conditions, the PMD warned that several districts in Sindh could experience a fresh heatwave spell from May 15.

The weather department said the heatwave may continue until May 20 or even longer in some areas.

Most parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot to very hot and dry, especially central and upper districts where heatwave conditions are already affecting daily life.

    Temperatures may reach 48°C

Meteorologists forecast extremely high temperatures in interior Sindh districts including Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad and Ghotki, where temperatures could rise between 46°C and 48°C.

Intense heat is also expected to persist in Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana and Sukkur.

The PMD noted that current heatwave conditions may ease temporarily from Tuesday before another prolonged spell develops later in the month.

    Public advised to take precautions

Authorities have advised citizens, especially children, women and old-age people, to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and remain hydrated.

Farmers have also been urged to plan agricultural activities carefully and ensure proper care of livestock during the extreme weather conditions.

Relevant departments have been directed to remain alert and take preventive measures to avoid emergencies during the ongoing hot weather spell.
