Chery has announced a recall of its Tiggo 8 large SUV after identifying a manufacturing issue that could compromise braking performance. The recall affects 5,556 vehicles produced between 2023 and 2026.
According to the automaker, a defect in the brake pipe assembly may cause the component to rub against the engine. Over time, this contact could damage the brake pipe and lead to a brake fluid leak.
Reduced Braking Performance Raises Safety Concerns
The company warned that a loss of brake fluid may result in diminished braking efficiency, increasing the likelihood of a collision. Such a fault poses a serious safety risk to vehicle occupants as well as other road users.
In its recall notice, Chery stated that the defect could potentially lead to accidents resulting in injuries or fatalities if left unaddressed.
Owners are encouraged to check whether their vehicles are included in the recall through the published Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list.

Third Recall Since Chery’s Return to Australia
This marks the third recall issued by Chery since the brand returned to the Australian market in 2023.
In February 2024, Chery recalled 5,901 Omoda 5 compact SUVs over a similar issue that could cause a brake fluid leak. Later in the same year, the company also recalled 1,923 Tiggo 4 SUVs due to a software-related defect that could prevent an alert sound from functioning properly.
