Chilly Weather Predicted for Islamabad: Frost Expected

Islamabad, January 16, 2025 – The capital city, Islamabad, is bracing for cold weather accompanied by morning frost on Friday, January 17, 2025, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Partly cloudy skies are anticipated during the evening and night, while frost is likely to form in the early hours.

The PMD has forecast cold and dry weather for Islamabad and its surrounding areas on Thursday night, with continental air dominating most regions of the country. A shallow westerly wave is expected to affect upper and western parts of Pakistan starting Friday evening or night.

Thursday’s Forecast Cold and dry conditions will persist across most parts of the country, with very cold weather in hilly regions. Moderate to dense fog patches are likely to blanket the plains of Punjab, upper Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Light rain or snowfall may occur in isolated areas of Kashmir and adjoining hilly regions.

Friday’s Forecast Similar weather conditions will prevail on Friday, with cold and dry weather across the country. Hilly areas will remain very cold, and moderate to dense fog is expected to persist in the plains of Punjab, upper Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the morning and night hours. Light rain or snow is likely in western Balochistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the evening or night.

Weather Over the Past 24 Hours Cold and dry weather dominated most parts of Pakistan, with very cold and partly cloudy conditions in hilly areas. Light rainfall was reported in northern Balochistan, Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding regions. Moderate to dense fog affected large parts of Punjab.

Rainfall amounts included:

• Kashmir: Garhi Dupatta (3 mm), Muzaffarabad Airport (3 mm), City (1 mm), Rawalakot, Kotli (2 mm)

• Punjab: Murree (3 mm)

• Balochistan: Barkhan (2 mm)

Snowfall was recorded in Murree (1 inch).
