Cold Conditions Persist as Fog Covers Punjab Districts

Islamabad, January 28, 2025 – Cold and dry weather is forecasted to persist across most districts of Punjab, while cloudy conditions accompanied by light rain and snowfall are anticipated in Murree, Galliyat, and surrounding areas during the night hours of Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), gusty winds and light drizzle are expected in parts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal. Additionally, shallow patches of fog may develop during the early morning hours in northeastern Punjab, particularly in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, and nearby areas.

On Tuesday night, cold and dry weather prevailed across most districts of Punjab, while cloudy weather with chances of light rain or snowfall was reported in Murree and Galliyat. Similar conditions are expected to continue, with isolated areas likely to experience brief spells of precipitation.

At the national level, the PMD stated that a shallow westerly wave is affecting the western and upper parts of the country, contributing to the cold weather pattern.

Cold and dry weather dominated most regions, with very cold conditions prevailing in hilly areas. Shallow to moderate fog developed over certain parts of northeastern Punjab.

Wednesday’s Weather Forecast for Punjab:

For Wednesday, most districts of Punjab will experience cold and dry conditions. However, northern areas of the province, including Murree and Galliyat, are expected to see cloudy skies with light rain or snowfall, providing some relief to winter enthusiasts. Cities like Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal may experience gusty winds and light drizzle.

Past 24-Hour Conditions:

The PMD recorded extremely cold weather in hilly regions, with Leh reporting the lowest temperature at -11°C, followed by Skardu at -10°C and Astore and Gupis at -9°C. Northeastern Punjab witnessed shallow to moderate fog in patches during the morning hours, affecting visibility in some areas.

The PMD also emphasized the importance of staying cautious while traveling in fog-prone areas of Punjab, especially during the early hours of the day. Residents of Murree and Galliyat are advised to prepare for possible snowfall, which could impact road conditions.
