Customs Collector highlights benefits of export facilitation scheme

KARACHI: The government has introduced an export facilitation scheme to promote the country’s exports under a modern digital automation system.

Shafiq Ahmed Latki, Collector at the Collectorate of Customs (Exports), highlighted benefits of the scheme during his visit to the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Saturday.

Under the new system, indirect exporters will no longer need to seek approval from the collector on a consignment-to-consignment basis. Instead, exporters can simply provide details in the system without needing formal approval. This will streamline the process and promote exports.

The Pakistan Single Window Portal has already been established, providing access to over 70 departments across the country through a single platform. This will allow exporters to efficiently navigate regulatory requirements and avoid delays in the export process.

Faraz-ur-Rehman, President of KATI, emphasized the need to increase exports to improve the economy and stabilize exports with an uninterrupted supply of raw materials. However, refunds for exporters are currently stuck, which creates fear of a lack of investment.

Rehman welcomed the Export Facilitation Scheme and One Window Services, saying that the timely provision of the One Window facility and the export facilitation scheme will help exporters with importing raw materials and the associated tax. This will not only improve exports but also help compete with other countries.

Masood Naqi, Chairman of the standing committee, has requested an awareness seminar to train exporters in the modern automated system. KATI has also given suggestions to improve the system, such as the clarification of HS codes, which should be addressed.

In conclusion, the new export facilitation scheme is a positive step towards promoting exports in Pakistan. The modern digital automation system will streamline the process, and the Pakistan Single Window Portal will help exporters navigate regulatory requirements efficiently. The government should continue to work with organizations like KATI to ensure that the system works effectively and that any issues are addressed in a timely manner.
