Dar Directs Quick Resumption of PIA Flights to US, UK, and Europe

Islamabad, July 7, 2023 – Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar has called for immediate measures to facilitate the prompt resumption of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe.

The finance minister conveyed this directive during a meeting held at the Finance Division on Thursday, which focused on matters related to the Civil Aviation Division and Airport Security Force. Key attendees included Federal Minister for Aviation and Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, Federal Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar, Federal Minister for Law & Justice Azam Nazir Tarar, SAPM on Finance Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Aviation, Secretary Law & Justice, Director General of the Airport Security Force, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, and senior officers from the Finance and Aviation sectors.

During the meeting, the finance minister was apprised of the challenges faced by the aviation sector regarding regulation, service provision, and security functions. Various legal solutions and necessary amendments to aviation laws and ordinances were discussed to enhance the sector’s capacity and align it with international aviation standards.

In light of the discussions, the Finance Minister instructed the relevant authorities to expedite the necessary legislative process to facilitate the swift resumption of PIA flights to the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe.

The resumption of these flights holds significant importance for Pakistan’s national carrier, PIA, as it seeks to restore its operations on key international routes. The Finance Minister’s directive underscores the government’s commitment to overcoming obstacles and ensuring the smooth resumption of PIA’s services to important destinations.
