Dar holds virtual meeting with AIIB chief to discuss economic development

On Saturday, the Minister for Finance and Revenue of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held a virtual meeting with Jin Liqun, the President of the Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank (AIIB), as part of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Spring meetings 2023.

Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Dr. Aisha Ghous Pasha, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Finance Tariq Bajwa, and SAPM on Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha attended the meeting virtually from Islamabad, while Ambassador of Pakistan to the USA Masood Ahmad Khan, Governor State Bank of Pakistan Jamil Ahmad, Secretary Finance, and Secretary Economic Affairs Division attended the meeting in person in Washington.

During the meeting, the Finance Minister shared the current economic outlook of Pakistan and updated the President of AIIB on the government’s economic policies and reforms aimed at sustainable economic development. The Finance Minister also expressed gratitude to the President of AIIB for the bank’s support in the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the flood-affected areas in Pakistan.

The President of AIIB, in turn, praised the relationship between Pakistan and the AIIB and appreciated the government’s economic policies and reforms for the social uplift of the masses. He highlighted the role of AIIB in infrastructure development projects and investment and extended the bank’s complete support and cooperation to Pakistan. The Finance Minister thanked the President of AIIB for the bank’s continuous support to Pakistan for sustainable economic development.
