Demi Moore has declared her Golden Globes win as the moment she finally feels she has “made it” in Hollywood. The veteran actress won her first-ever Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her performance in The Substance at the 2025 Golden Globes on January 5.
“Oh wow. I really wasn’t expecting that. I’m just in shock right now,” said Demi during her heartfelt acceptance speech, visibly emotional as she addressed the audience.
Reflecting on her decades-long career, Demi shared, “I’ve been acting for over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor.”
The Blind actress revisited a pivotal moment from 30 years ago when a producer labeled her a “popcorn actress.” This comment, she revealed, deeply affected her self-belief. “At that time, I made that mean this wasn’t something I was allowed to have. Sure, I could make successful, money-making movies, but I couldn’t be acknowledged,” she explained.
Demi admitted she internalized that criticism, saying, “I bought in and believed it. Over time, it corroded me to the point where, a few years ago, I thought maybe this was it. Maybe I had done all I was meant to do.”
However, her perspective changed when she encountered The Substance. “I was at a low point when this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script landed on my desk. The universe told me, ‘You’re not done,’” she said.
Demi expressed gratitude to the movie’s director and her co-star for their belief in her. She closed her speech with a poignant message: “In moments when we don’t feel smart enough, pretty enough, skinny enough, or successful enough, remember this: You may never feel like enough, but you can recognize your worth if you put down the measuring stick.”
Other nominees in her category included Amy Adams (Nightbitch), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Zendaya (Challengers).
Demi’s win marks a triumphant moment in her storied career, showcasing her resilience and reminding others of the power of perseverance and self-worth.
