Dwayne Johnson says toner is a skincare essential for men

Dwayne Johnson has encouraged men to add toner to their daily skincare routine, calling it an essential step as he promoted his grooming brand ahead of Disney’s upcoming live-action Moana.

Speaking to People magazine, Johnson said toner is the one skincare product that “dudes must use,” describing it as an often-overlooked part of a daily routine.

“Toner is the quiet superpower,” Johnson said. “Because toner’s the thing that our girls use, our ladies use that. And instead of going to steal their stuff, I founded Papatui.”

The actor highlighted his own skincare brand, Papatui, saying its toner contains witch hazel, an ingredient commonly used in skincare products for its cleansing and soothing properties.

Johnson launched Papatui in 2024, expanding into the men’s grooming market with a range of skincare and personal care products.

Earlier this year, the Hollywood star also went viral on TikTok after an influencer questioned why the famously bald actor was selling shampoo and conditioner. Johnson responded with a humorous video showcasing the long hair he wears as Maui in Disney’s live-action Moana.

“Ok this made me belly laugh.. HARD. And hey, sometimes a Demigod’s radiant and ravishing hair needs shampoo/conditioner. You’re Welcooooome,” he wrote alongside the clip.

Johnson will reprise his role as Maui in the live-action adaptation of Moana, following his voice performance in the 2016 animated film.

The actor has also teased that discussions are already underway for Moana 3. Speaking during a press conference in Rio de Janeiro while promoting the live-action film, Johnson confirmed that the project is being discussed.

“Yes, we have talked about Moana 3, yes,” he said.

He added that the immediate focus remains on the live-action release before work begins on a third animated instalment.

Writers Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller are expected to return to pen the screenplay for Moana 3, according to Johnson.
