EASA Lifts Ban on PIA After Four Years

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has officially lifted the four-year ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), marking a significant milestone for Pakistan’s aviation sector.

The announcement was conveyed through an official communique to the Ministry of Aviation and PIA management, confirming the decision.

According to a PIA spokesperson, EASA has congratulated the airline’s management and team for meeting their rigorous safety standards. This recognition follows years of dedicated efforts to enhance safety measures and align operations with international standards. “PIA will continue to strictly adhere to EASA’s regulations and guidelines, ensuring sustained compliance,” the spokesperson added.

The lifting of the ban comes as a result of relentless efforts by PIA and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to rebuild trust and address safety concerns. PIA’s CEO, Air Vice Marshal Aamir Hayat, celebrated the achievement, extending his congratulations to the Ministry of Aviation, CAA, PIA staff, and the broader aviation industry for their collective dedication and hard work.

“This historic occasion is a proud moment for the nation and the aviation sector,” said Air Vice Marshal Hayat. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high safety standards to uphold the confidence regained from international regulators.

With the ban now removed, Pakistani travelers can once again fly directly to European destinations via their national flag carrier, PIA. This development not only enhances connectivity but also signifies PIA’s adherence to global aviation safety benchmarks.

The ban, originally imposed in 2020 following concerns over pilot licensing and operational safety, had severely impacted PIA’s international operations. Since then, the airline has undertaken comprehensive reforms to address these issues, including enhancing training programs, revising safety protocols, and implementing stringent compliance measures.

The successful resolution of the ban is a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to restoring its reputation in the global aviation community. This milestone promises to reinvigorate the national carrier and bolster the country’s aviation sector as it moves forward with renewed confidence and opportunity.
