KARACHI: Several fuel stations were shut down in the city on Wednesday evening due to sudden demand after rumors of fuel supply suspension following mysterious toxic gas leakage.
Earlier in the day Pakistan State Oil (PSO) temporarily closed down its storage terminal at Kemari for safety of its staff as toxic gas claimed around 15 lives and harmed many others.
However, the PSO made it clear that the supply of petroleum products would continue despite temporary closure of its storage terminal.
Later in afternoon some media reports created panic that petrol pumps had out of fuels and were closing down. Following the reports people thronged to petrol pumps to refill motor vehicles tanks to avoid difficulties.
The additional burden of demand resulted around half of the petrol pumps were closed down due to shortage of fuel by Wednesday night.
PSO again issued a statement Wednesday late night that it had buffer stock of petroleum products and the company was ensuring continuous supply to fuel stations in the city.
It said that company’s storage terminal at Zulfiqarabad was active and its operation was remained continued 24X7.
The company said that it had ensured supply across the country, including Karachi.
It further said that ships carrying petroleum products were at the port and supply would continue any interruption.
