Harry Brook leads a 16-man England squad featuring new faces and returning pacers for the three-match ODI series against India starting July 14.
England have announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against India, with promising all-rounder James Coles earning his first-ever call-up to the national ODI side.
The series is set to begin on July 14 at Edgbaston, where England will look to build on their recent success in the 50-over format. Coles, who was previously selected in England’s T20I squad against India, has now been rewarded with an opportunity to make his mark in ODI cricket after consistent performances at the domestic level.
Another player to retain his place is fast bowler Josh Tongue, who is yet to make his ODI debut. Tongue impressed England’s selectors with his performances in Test cricket, particularly during the Ashes campaign in late 2025, and remains part of the pace unit for the home series.
Captain Harry Brook will once again lead a strong England squad that blends youth with experience. The batting line-up includes senior players such as Joe Root, Jos Buttler and Ben Duckett, while all-rounders Sam Curran, Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks add depth to the side.
England’s bowling attack has also received a significant boost with the return of Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood, strengthening a pace department that already features Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue. Spin responsibilities will largely rest on the experienced duo of Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson, while Rehan Ahmed offers another spin option.
England head into the series with confidence after securing a 2-1 ODI series victory over Sri Lanka in January. The team recovered from losing the opening match to claim the series, demonstrating resilience ahead of another challenging assignment.
Several familiar names, however, have missed out on selection. Zak Crawley, Brydon Carse, Jamie Overton and Luke Wood are among the notable absentees from the latest squad.
The three-match series will be played across some of England’s most iconic cricket venues. After the opening fixture at Edgbaston, the teams will travel to Sophia Gardens in Cardiff for the second ODI on July 16 before concluding the series at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on July 19.
England ODI Squad: Harry Brook (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, James Coles, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Joe Root and Josh Tongue.
