England’s cricket team delivered a powerful performance, defeating the West Indies by seven wickets in the second T20I in Barbados on Sunday. Skipper Jos Buttler led the charge with a stunning 83 off 45 balls, helping England reach their target of 161 with ease and secure a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
After being sent in to bat, the West Indies posted a modest total of 158 for eight, which England chased down comfortably in just 14.4 overs. England’s chase began with a slight setback, as Phil Salt was dismissed on the first ball by Akeal Hosein. However, Buttler’s entry to the crease quickly shifted the momentum in England’s favor. The captain’s explosive knock, featuring eight fours and six sixes, left the West Indies bowlers struggling to contain him.
Buttler’s exceptional innings earned him the “Man of the Match” award, and he reflected on his performance by saying, “It was scratchy for the first couple of balls, but when I got going, I really enjoyed it. It was great to be back out there.” His aggressive play was well supported by Will Jacks, who scored a steady 38 off 29 balls. Together, they put up a 129-run partnership for the second wicket, propelling England to a comfortable position.
The West Indies’ bowling attack, weakened by the absence of key players like Alzarri Joseph and Andre Russell, struggled against England’s aggressive batting. Debutant Terrance Hinds found it especially challenging, as Buttler and Jacks took full advantage of the weakened lineup. Despite his impressive innings, Buttler narrowly missed a century, falling for 83 after a catch at extra cover by Rovman Powell, ending his explosive knock.
England’s bowlers had earlier contained the West Indies to a manageable score. Liam Livingstone led England’s bowling efforts with figures of two for 16. Livingstone also made a quick contribution with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 23 off 11 balls, securing England’s victory.
West Indies’ innings was supported by Rovman Powell, who scored 43 off 41 balls, and Romario Shepherd, who added a quick 22 off 12 balls towards the end. Their efforts, however, proved insufficient against England’s disciplined bowling and fielding. The heavy rain that affected the pitch earlier in the day required the use of a heavy roller, but it didn’t stop England from executing their game plan effectively.
With this victory, England now has a strong chance to secure the series in the remaining matches in St. Lucia. Their dominant performance not only brings them closer to a series win but also offers a potential redemption after their recent 2-1 ODI series loss to the West Indies.
