KARACHI: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial on Wednesday directed chief commissioners and chief collectors to hold regular one-on-one meetings with relevant industry representatives and resolve outstanding issues faced by the business community.

The directives were issued during meetings with delegations from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), according to an FBR news release.

In compliance with the prime minister’s directives, the FBR’s top leadership is visiting Karachi throughout the week to address issues affecting trade and businesses.

During the meetings, Langrial reviewed progress on decisions taken during previous visits to Karachi and instructed officials to expedite the completion of pending tasks.

Representatives of the trade bodies raised additional issues requiring resolution. They also appreciated the FBR leadership and expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far.

FBR highlights modernisation reforms

During the discussions, the FBR chairman briefed participants on modernisation reforms being undertaken by the tax authority and their broader impact on improving service delivery.

He emphasised the importance of feedback from the business community in reshaping the FBR’s working practices and improving its performance.

Langrial stressed that regular engagement with industry representatives would help officials better understand business-related challenges and facilitate the resolution of outstanding matters.

The meetings form part of the FBR leadership’s efforts to strengthen engagement with trade and industry, review the implementation of earlier decisions and improve coordination between tax officials and the business community.

The directive to chief commissioners and chief collectors is intended to establish a more regular mechanism for addressing industry concerns and ensuring that pending issues receive timely attention.

The FBR’s continued engagement with trade bodies also highlights the importance of consultation and feedback in implementing tax administration reforms and improving services for businesses.
