FBR chairman on 14 days leave

The Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi, is set to take a 14-day leave, according to an official notification issued on Tuesday. The leave is effective from January 6, 2020, to January 19, 2020.

The notification outlined that during Chairman Zaidi’s absence, Ms. Nausheen Javaid Amjad, a distinguished BS-22 officer of the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) currently serving as Member (Admin) at FBR, Islamabad, has been entrusted with the responsibility of looking after the duties and functions of the FBR Chairman.

Mr. Zaidi, who assumed the position of FBR Chairman in May 2019, has been a key figure in steering the country’s revenue collection efforts. His leave comes at a time when the FBR is actively engaged in various tax-related initiatives and reforms to enhance revenue collection and streamline tax administration.

Ms. Nausheen Javaid Amjad, a seasoned officer with extensive experience in the Inland Revenue Service, will temporarily take the reins of the FBR during this period. As the Member (Admin) of FBR, she has played a vital role in administrative matters and has been involved in decision-making processes within the organization.

The FBR is tasked with overseeing tax collection, enforcing tax laws, and implementing policies to promote fiscal discipline in Pakistan. The temporary handover of responsibilities to Ms. Nausheen Javaid Amjad ensures the continuity of key functions within the organization during Chairman Zaidi’s absence.

While on leave, Chairman Zaidi is expected to return to his duties on January 20, 2020. During this period, Ms. Amjad will navigate the responsibilities of the FBR Chairman, ensuring that ongoing initiatives and operations proceed smoothly.

It is customary for leaders of crucial government institutions to take periodic leaves, and the temporary transfer of responsibilities ensures a seamless transition in leadership. This practice is especially significant in organizations that play a pivotal role in the economic and financial landscape of a country.

The FBR’s mandate is critical to Pakistan’s fiscal health, and the organization continues to undergo reforms to improve efficiency, transparency, and revenue generation. Ms. Nausheen Javaid Amjad’s interim leadership is anticipated to maintain the momentum of FBR’s activities, allowing for uninterrupted progress in the realm of taxation and revenue collection.

As Chairman Zaidi takes a short break, the focus remains on sustaining and advancing the FBR’s mission of fostering a tax-friendly environment, enhancing compliance, and contributing to the economic development of Pakistan.
