FBR Declares NLC Sultanabad Karachi as Customs Port

PkRevenue.com – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially designated the Off-Dock Terminal operated by the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) in Sultanabad, Karachi, as a customs port.

This terminal will now be authorized for the loading and unloading of containerized cargo from vessels berthed at Karachi’s ports. The announcement was formalized through the issuance of SRO.697(I)/2024 by the FBR.

According to the FBR notification, the NLC terminal in Sultanabad will handle both full container load (FCL) and less container load (LCL) cargo. This authorization allows the terminal to take custody of containers immediately after they are discharged from vessels at all the wharves and marine terminals of Karachi Port and Port Muhammad Bin Qasim. This process will be conducted at the NLC’s Off-Dock Terminal adjacent to the New Haji Camp in Sultanabad, Karachi.

The terms and conditions for these operations are outlined in the relevant customs regulations and the Standing Order issued by the Collectorate of Customs Appraisement (East), Karachi. This Standing Order has been developed in consultation with the Collectorate of Customs (Exports) and the Collectorate of Customs, Ports, Karachi. This collaboration ensures that the procedures for the clearance of goods, whether imported or exported, are meticulously followed.

In addition to SRO.697(I)/2024, the FBR has issued another notification, SRO.696(I)/2024, which further solidifies the status of the NLC terminal. This notification declares the terminal, encompassing an area of 59,537 square meters (approximately 14.712 acres) adjacent to the New Rah Camp in Sultanabad, Karachi, as a Customs-Port. This designation covers the clearance of all types of goods, whether imported or exported, thus expanding the operational capacity and significance of the NLC terminal.

These measures by the FBR aim to streamline cargo handling processes and improve the efficiency of customs operations in Karachi. The designation of the NLC Sultanabad terminal as a customs port is expected to facilitate smoother logistics and enhance trade activities through Karachi’s major ports.
